THE LEAVING

 

The old bluesman shuffled out on the stage, wrinkled, gray and grizzled with his guitar and sat down on a stool. He blinked once or twice at the blinding spotlights and put his mouth up to the microphone. He’d said it a thousand times before, but somehow tonight was different. In a deep, tired voice he slowly told the unseen audience out there somewhere behind the bright stage lights, “This is the story of my life,” and then he began to play…
