SUSPICIOUSLY SPREAD-EAGLED

A PARIS MOMENT – CREATIVE GRAFFITI AND STREET ART

STREET ART BY BASTEK

According to his Facebook page, Bastek has been pursuing his street art since 2009, mainly in France, but also in other European countries. Employing various techniques, many of his works are canvases placed, not horizontally, but at an angle on the walls of Parisian buildings, an interesting and original concept. His Facebook page can be accessed here: https://www.facebook.com/Bastek.Artist/

A PARIS MOMENT – CREATIVE GRAFFITI AND STREET ART

SHHHHHH!

Dominating the entire side of a building on the corner of the Rue du Cloitre Saint-Merri and the Place Igor Stravinsky, across from the Rue Brisemiche, staring out at the Fontaine Stravinsky near Le Centre Pompidou is an incredible work of street art. A face with its finger to its lips commands the attention of the entire square. The work was done in by the street artist Jef Aerosol in June 2011. Since then the lower part has been covered with other graffiti, but you can see how the mural was created and how it looked right after it was finished at this link:

GREGOS – STREET ARTIST

Back in June I posted a poem entitled The Face (https://nitepoetry.wordpress.com/2015/06/01/the-face/) that was accompanied by a photo of a face mask on the Pont de la Tournelle. At the time I didn’t know who the street artist was but now I can identify him as an artist named Gregos. Here is a slightly modified biography from his web site: Born in 1972, he grew up in the northern suburbs of Paris (Gonesse, Villiers le Bel). Self-taught, his first steps in street art were in graffiti painting during the late 80s, early 90s. In 1997, after 2 years in Athens, Greece, he started experimenting with sculpting and molding techniques. In 2003, he went to Boston, Massachusetts, where he studied acrylic and oil painting techniques. Back in Paris in 2006, he returned to his first love: street art. In the Montmartre district, where he now lives, he has involved himself in the ever present street art in this area of Paris. Inventing his own 3D concept, utilizing all the techniques he has developed and taught himself over the years, he now concentrates on creating a replica of his face, with different humors, that he paints and then glues on the walls of Paris. Each face is a sort of self-portrait of the day to express his humors, his past, present, and future, everything that makes him the artist that he is…

Gregos’ website can be accessed here:

THE FACE ON THE WALL

Tucked away in the Passage des Patriarches, a small alleyway that runs off the Rue Mouffetard, is this nightmarish face on the wall, an interesting example of street art in Paris…

BREAKFAST ON THE BLOG

Breakfast August 1 2015

Good morning and welcome once again to another edition of Breakfast On The Blog. Actually, yesterday’s post was supposed to be today’s and today’s was supposed to be yesterday’s. Confused? Apparently I was…

AMAZING STREET ART ON THE RUE L’ ARBALÈTE

This sequence of scenes on a shop front in the Rue de l’Arbalète in the 5th arrondissement in Paris is one incredible piece of street art. I include here a view of the complete panel, and then, moving from left to right, five detail photos..

Arabalète 1The complete panel.

Arabalète 2The first detailed view. I would have loved to have seen the artist create this.

Arabalète 3The detail is incredible. Note the birds in the tree.

Arabalète 4The lines are simple yet detailed and refined. The background colour provided by the shop wall adds to the total effect.

Arabalète 5There is just so much movement here, so much going on.

Arabalète 6The text at the bottom right hand corner, La rue est une galarie d’art en plein air! (the street is an open-air art gallery!) sums it up nicely.

All photos taken in the Rue de l’Arbalète in the 5th arrondissement in Paris in May 2015.

BREAKFAST ON THE BLOG

Breakfast 18 July 2015

THE MAN WITH THE MOUSTACHE

Good morning and welcome once again to another edition of Breakfast On The Blog. Since I’ve spent most of the day reformatting and converting lyrics into PDF files for next Friday’s concert so I can load them onto my iPad to use as a teleprompter for those inevitable moments when my mind goes blank in the middle of a song, I haven’t had the time to conjure up much for today’s blog. So, here’s another example of some interesting street art in Paris. And he has such a fine French nose…

NO HAPPY ENDING
