It was the view I knew on and off for fifteen and the view my parents knew for some thirty years, the longest period of time they had ever lived in one place. It was view from their front door and it was where he, Sarge the Shepherd,  always liked to sit and watch the world go by. And now, like everything in life, the memory is slowly fading away…

I often quote these lyrics from Simon and Garfunkle’s song Bookends because of their simple truth…

Time it was
And what a time it was, it was
A time of innocence,
A time of confidences

Long ago it must be,
I have a photograph,
Preserve your memories,
They’re all that’s left you…

(lyrics by Paul Simon
