Breakfast January 10 2015

Good morning and welcome once again to another edition of Breakfast On The Blog. I would like to post just a few lines about the events in Paris that took place earlier this afternoon.

Those of us who blog here on WordPress and elsewhere on the Internet know how important it is to be able to express ourselves freely in an open society. All of us who have something to say, to create, to show or to share here realize the value of that freedom. My meager scribblings on this blog are just a drop in a much larger inkwell of free speech, the freedom of expression and the universal right to express one’s opinion without censorship and without fear. Over a million and a half people in Paris today, and many more in other cities and countries stood up to show that they will not tolerate the bestiality of fundamentalist terrorists who take the lives of innocent people in the name of their absurdly twisted dogma. The resistance to this assault on our freedoms cannot end today with this incredible show of solidarity; it must continue until the time comes when the absurdity and horror that these terrorists practice is wiped from the face of the Earth. As I was writing this it was about 20:30 (8:30 pm) here in Europe, it had already been dark for a while and though the march was now history, the citizens of Paris still lingered in the streets, still waving flags and chanting “Je suis Charlie” and singing La Marseillaise. Today people of all ages, of all races, of all nations, of all beliefs and of all political persuasions, world leaders, bakers, students, bankers, taxi drivers, professors, housewives, journalists, everyone marched side by side and showed the world that they will not tolerate the madness any longer. It is NOT over. It is our responsibility now to make sure that this spirit doesn’t fade…

000 Pen“We are ALL Charlie…” I created this photo today, January 11th 2015, in memory of the ten journalists, two policemen, one policewoman and the four hostages who lost their lives .
